Persephone’s winged sirens are one of the enduring images of Greek mythology. Beautiful, wild and savage, they ravaged men to avenge their absent mistress. With the concoction of sea, seduction and song the sirens lured passing sailors to shore, the men aware of the fate that awaited them yet unable to resist such fatal charms.
It was the combination of this tale and sentiment that served as the inspiration behind Lucy’s latest collection, A Siren’s Call. As with much of her work, first came a feeling; a feeling that something was missing. It was a desire for a heavier chain. One that was dynamic and tactile, smooth like a rolled pebble from the sea. Imagining a modern siren and inspired by the mariner chains first seen in the 1860s, the result is a capsule collection of two different chain silhouettes, both wrought from hollowed, recycled 14kt yellow gold.
Like the sirens’ call these pieces pull us in. They are irresistible to touch with a weight that gives a reassuring presence and effortless wearability. And though they call on the past they carry a relevance that make them an essential item for the modern siren.
